From July 3 to August 23, 2025, Unaw Gallery will celebrate the ingenuity of contemporary art with a solo exhibition by Haechan Kang titled "Flowing Moonlight." This exhibition features 31 paintings from 2022 to 2025, newly crafted works, and for the first time, earlier drawings and sketches.
Kang's work delves into the beyond-visible senses, embodying sealed memories of time and residues of experience in his paintings. By capturing the intangible flows of light and air, he layers them as materials of imagination on the canvas, prompting us to revisit often overlooked moments in our daily lives.
At the heart of the exhibition lies his unique expression method known as "sensory painting." For instance, Kang captures fleeting moments—such as the humidity of a summer night or the chill of a winter evening—transforming them into a new dimension of sensation. Through this, he transcends the conventional boundaries of painting to form layers of perception.
Widely recognized within the Korean art scene, Kang uses interference pigments that alter color and sheen based on the viewer's perspective. This technique manifests landscapes not as static images but as transitions of sensation, inviting complex perceptual experiences.
