강해찬, 시간과 감각의 경계를 탐색하다: Unaw Gallery의 새로운 전시 《Flowing Moonlight》
2025년 7월 3일부터 8월 23일까지 Unaw Gallery에서는 한국 현대미술의 떠오르는 별, 강해찬의 개인전 《Flowing Moonlight》을 개최합니다. 이번 전시는 그는 2022년부터 2025년까지 작업한 31점의 회화 작품과 특히 이번 전시를 위해 새롭게 제작된 신작 및 초기 드로잉과 습작들을 포함하고 있습니다.
강해찬 작가는 회화적 탐구를 통해 우리가 무심코 지나치는 일상의 감각들을 포착합니다. 불확실하지만 명확히 존재하는 공기, 빛, 그리고 물 등의 요소를 통해 시각적 재현을 넘어 경험의 공간을 창출합니다. 이는 마치 여름밤의 눅진한 공기나 겨울 저녁의 서늘함을 떠올리게 하며, 이렇게 감각적인 전환은 가시성과 비가시성 사이를 탐색합니다.

Haechan Kang Explores the Boundaries of Time and Sensation: Unaw Gallery's New Exhibition "Flowing Moonlight"
From July 3 to August 23, 2025, Unaw Gallery proudly presents "Flowing Moonlight," a solo exhibition by rising star of Korean contemporary art, Haechan Kang. This exhibition showcases 31 paintings created between 2022 and 2025, along with newly produced works and early sketches and drawings specifically made for this exhibition.
Haechan Kang captures the overlooked sensory elements of everyday life through a painterly exploration. He transforms elements like air, light, and water, which are uncertain yet distinctly present, to create a perceptual space beyond mere visual representation. It's reminiscent of the dense air of a summer night or the coolness of a winter evening, and such sensory transitions explore the tensions between visibility and invisibility.
A notable feature of this exhibition is Kang’s use of interference pigments in his works. These materials change their color and sheen based on the viewer's perspective, visualizing temporality and fluidity on the canvas. Kang’s technique emphasizes that paintings are not fixed images but landscapes composed of sensory transitions.
Through repeated motifs like apartment complexes, windows, branches, and silhouettes, Kang’s work functions as a simulation of sensory structures, departing from the romantic subjects of traditional painting. This approach actualizes the emotional density that lies between sensation, memory, emotion, and reality, providing viewers with the emotional space to confront their inner time.
"Flowing Moonlight" invites us to revisit the landscapes of seasons and times we've passed by, following the subtly modulated layers of sensation. It quietly evokes the ingrained sensations within our memories, as if handing over a moment rather than a scene.
