UNAW Gallery Invites You to Experience the Poetic Reality of Haechan Kang: Flowing Moonlight Exhibition
From July 3 to August 23, 2025, UNAW Gallery presents the solo exhibition of Korean contemporary artist Haechan Kang, titled Flowing Moonlight. This exhibition invites you to explore the unique synthesis of sensory threads and visual articulation within Kang's world of painting.
Featuring 31 paintings created from 2022 to 2025, along with new pieces, Flowing Moonlight showcases Kang's "sensory painting" approach. Through his work, Kang delves into the interactions with invisible yet undeniably present elements like light, air, and water. By reconstructing the senses of specific times and landscapes into visual language, he offers viewers a space imbued with his emotive sensibilities.
A highlight of the exhibition is Kang’s use of interference pigments, which change color and luster depending on the viewer's angle. This depicts temporal and fluid aspects while visually guiding the flow of sensation. Kang reaffirms that a painting isn't a fixed image, but rather a landscape composed of sensory movement.
Moving past the romantic depiction of landscapes, Kang focuses on capturing the emergence of reality and sensation. The recurring motifs of apartment complexes, windows, and branches allude to real-life landscapes, existing as traces of sensation and memory. Consequently, Kang's work vividly manifests the intertwined landscapes of sensation, memory, and emotion.
Flowing Moonlight awakens the subtle layers of senses, allowing us to revisit the landscape of seasons and times with a fresh perspective. Through the visualization of everyday fleeting moments, Kang provides the viewer an opportunity to reflect on the emotional deposits of forgotten time.
